PUMA is proud to support “30 Americans.”
PUMA and John Armleder have specifically developed the Reality Bag 2 for “30 Americans”
with art-related content from all thirty-one artists.
PUMA is honored to support the exhibition “30 Americans” at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami,
and honored to support the spirit and creativity these artists stand for. The PUMA brand experiments
with the new, joining together creative spirits with major figures of the sports and fashion worlds—figures
such as Usain Bolt, Samuel Eto’o and designer Hussein Chalayan, now the creative director of the
PUMA Sport Fashion collections. In view of our longstanding commitment to creativity and service,
it feels a natural step for PUMA to participate in this extraordinary project. We know this exhibition will
encourage important debates, prompting social and intercultural dialogue.
I met Mera and Don Rubell last year, during the launch of the Reality Bag No. 1. When they spoke to me
about the Rubell Family Collection and their educational programs, their inspiring ideas and dedication
impressed me. I knew then that it would only be a matter of time before an opportunity to contribute
to their projects presented itself. “30 Americans” gives us that opportunity, and allows us to demonstrate
our interest in creative talent in a unique and exciting way. It also comes at a timely moment as we
introduce the PUMAVision—a new concept within our company. PUMAVision combines the work of our
sustainability program through PUMA.SAFE, the support of Peace One Day through PUMA.PEACE,
and our passionate involvement with creative talents through PUMA.CREATIVE, and blends all these projects
into a coherent vision that unites our company, stakeholders, shareholders, and customers alike.
With PUMA.CREATIVE, we aim to bring together individual artists and cultural organizations, and provide them
with a platform for creative exchange and international exposure. We are delighted to be able to express our
PUMAVision through this collaboration with the Rubell Family Collection and this exhibition, “30 Americans.”
This is the first PUMA.CREATIVE project, but there are many more to come.
This exhibition coincides with the launch of the Reality Bag No. 2, which follows the success of the
Original Reality Bag, designed by Swiss artist John Armleder and presented in October 2007 at the
Serpentine Gallery in London. Armleder’s Reality Bag No. 2 is based on the concept of a portable
art gallery, pairing a stylish and utilitarian bag with original artworks contained inside – artworks created by
the thirty-one artists featured in this exhibition. Proceeds from the sale of the bag will go toward the
education programs of both the Contemporary Arts Foundation and the Serpentine Gallery.
Finally, I am grateful to everyone who participated in the production of this exhibition and in the
creation of the Reality Bag No. 2. Special thanks go to Marie-Claude Beaud, director of the
Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (Mudam) in Luxembourg, for introducing me to the
Rubell family and bringing my attention to “30 Americans.”
PUMA is proud to support this inspiring exhibition and the work of these thirty-one artists:
